OUSD Music Teacher Colin Hacker instructs students at Summit School. Colin taught all the music classes for elementary school students in grades 4th - 6th during the 2016 - 2017 school year thanks in part to a grant from OEF!
On behalf of the Ojai Education Foundation, we would like to congratulate all of the students, families, teachers, school administrators, staff, aides and volunteers for completing another school year! We hope you and yours can look back on the “journey” that is part of any school year - the time spent on in-class work, homework, projects, tests, and after school activities - and appreciate all that you and your family actually accomplished over the last 9 months! We’d also like to give a heartfelt “shout out” to all of our graduating classes of Kindergartners, 6th graders, 8th graders and 12th graders on a job well done, and hope each are looking ahead with pride and excitement for what lies ahead as they enter a new phase in their lives!
As we look back on our key results as a Foundation over the last school year, we find we ourselves grateful to our donors, volunteers, and all those who we had the pleasure to work with to help Ojai provide a quality public education for our kids. With your help we: raised over $75,000 from donors at our Annual Breakfast, Annual Appeal, Golf Tournament, other grants and more; saw first-hand the tangible, innovative and exciting learning experiences created for our students and teachers that were made possible by OEF grants including state-of-the-art Chromebooks, microscopes and binoculars, art supplies, Ukuleles, literature sets, special education resources and teacher training and development; helped to fund the inclusion of a dedicated music teacher for our District to teach music throughout all of our elementary schools, and much more!
We are also taking this time to look back to thank all of the wonderful people throughout our District who helped make Ojai a great place for our kids to learn and grow. It is with sincere gratitude that we recognize all of our teachers, staff, PTO/PTA members for all they do every day. And in particular, we would like to honor Dr. Hank Bangser for his eight years of service as Superintendent of our District and as OEF Board member. Through his guidance and leadership, he steered the District from a critical financial state with overall morale at an all time low, to a place where the District is now healthier than it’s been in recent history, including teachers receiving much deserved salary increases for the first time in several years.
Looking ahead to the 2017 - 2018 school year, we are excited for what’s to come! We are thrilled to have Andy Cantwell in the official capacity of Superintendent. He has already shown great leadership in guiding the our District with an exciting and innovative perspective and vigor. We have also set great goals for the Foundation including: improving relations with our key stakeholders; raising additional grant dollars for key programs throughout the District; “telling our story” in new and unique ways through various channel to further illustrate the great work that is happening every day in our schools to help our kids become the best version of themselves, and to further inspire you and others to become even more actively involved in our local public education efforts. We look forward to you joining us in this exciting next step in our journey!
Until then, we hope you and your family have a fun, safe and relaxing summer. And we look forward to seeing everyone at the First Day of School on Wednesday, August 23, and at our Annual Breakfast Fundraiser on Thursday, September 28!
