As dawn broke bright and beautiful over Soule Park Golf Course on Saturday, April 22nd, more than 80 golfers and volunteers gathered at the 17th Annual Ojai Golf Classic benefiting the Ojai Education Foundation (OEF) and the Ojai Valley Youth Foundation (OVYF). Thanks to several months of careful planning by Board members from both organizations, led by OEF Board Member Laura Denne, the annual event proved to be another great day of golf, food, and fun, raising $17,000 for youth in the Ojai Valley!
Proceeds from the Classic will fund OEF grants benefiting teachers and students of the Ojai Unified School District including innovative in-class programs, updated technology and equipment, and basic classroom supplies. Go to OEF Grants to see a list of of $60,000 in grants awarded for the 2017 - 2018 school year.
Laura Denne, Co-Chair for the Classic, attributed the successful legacy of the Classic to an unwavering commitment of community support. “I could not be more thankful to this year’s participants, sponsors, donors and volunteers for supporting our event for a 17th straight year,” said Denne, “The support we receive year-after-year from the community for this event on behalf of our kids is incredible.”
This year’s event included a full round of golf, prizes, lunch and more! Prizes were awarded to: Sherry Doyle, Laura Reynolds, Sandy Blase’ and Judy Devine in the Women’s Division; Dustin Baxley, Ryan Blatz, Rick Dowden and Trevor Leal in the Men's Division; Ted Cotti, Mike Dawkins, Jenny Davis and Matt Johnson in the Mixed Division; and Jenny Davis and Davis Smith for the Longest Drives.
This year’s Ball Drop was orchestrated by OEF Board member Cam Campbell who brought in a scissor lift to pour out 1,000 balls onto the green (from a height of 50’ height!) and was won by Suzanne Feldman.
The event concluded with participants anticipating next year’s event! Golfers Susie and Mike Carnes summed up the day, “The day was fun, the food delicious, and we provided much needed support for our youth. What more could you ask for?”
